Jack Russell Terrier training is not as hard as you may think. You just to avoid certain mistakes the average Russell terrier owner usually makes.
Your training needs to begin the very day you bring home your pup. Jack Russell’s tend to be highly energetic and will try to gain dominance over their owners if they are allowed. It’s imperative that their training begin immediately. Take your pup to the yard when you get home and wait for him to go potty. Make sure to praise your pup for his efforts. Being your Jack Russell training from the onset.
Be sure to gain dominance over your Jack Russell. They want to be dominant and it will lead to nasty habits that will be very hard to break. Do not let your pup run the house. Make sure he understand who is the dominant force in the house.
Make sure that his discipline is conducted in a consistent method. You do not want to scold him for something then let him get a free ride the next time. This will lead to confusion and your pup will not understand. Do you discipline your children inconsistently? Probably not.
Jack Russell training must include voice commands. He needs to know your voice and he needs to listen to your commands. Since, they are so highly energetic, it’s important that they listen to voice commands. It could save their life.
Never allow your Jack display signs of dominance. Aggressive behavior like snapping and growling are signs of dominance and should not be ignored. Never let him display these signs. Jack Terrier training must include nipping in the bud any signs of aggression.
Jack’s are very loyal and lovable dogs, they love praise and will want to be loyal. The more hardline approach you take to training your Russell the better chance they be even more loyal. Their main characteristics are boldness, loyalty, assertiveness, happy and energetic. It’s these fine qualities that make Jack Russel ownership so much fun.
But, if you make mistakes when training your pup, you will be creating a devilish little imp.
