The Great Significance of Pet Vaccinations

When you were a child you had to have vaccinations at certain points in your life such as measles, tetanus, and other shots. This is important for your pets as well. We will specifically look at dog vaccinations, as they are a very common pet to have. Keep in mind during some of these shots are required for cats as well.

Dogs need to have vaccinations to guard against disease. When your dog is a puppy they will need a distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvovirus, parainfluenza, and corona combination between six to eight, nine to eleven, twelve to fourteen, and sixteen to seventeen weeks. They will also need these shots again every twelve months. The next vaccination is a bordetella administered at fourteen weeks and every six months. Rabies must be given at sixteen weeks and again every twelve to thirty- six months.

How to teach any dog to FETCH!

This is probably one of the most favorite tricks to dog owners just because everyone wants to play fetch with his dog. This article will show you some tips to how to get your dog interested in this game that is found worth well for most dogs. As in anything you teach a dog it is very important to break it into lots and lots of little manageable steps the first of which will be getting your dog interested and holding the object by their mouth.
Whenever you are teaching your dog something new you need to get down on the ground at the dogs eye level because it allows you to communicate with the dog a lot more genuinely. The toy itself is not important as much as the attitude you are going to have when you are teaching this to your dog. In dog training enthusiasm is contagious, so if you are going to be very excited about something, the dog is going to develop a similar attitude towards whatever you are doing.
Find a toy he likes and get him interested about it. Play with him and he will try to put it in his mouth. It is recommended to always have and use a clicker and treats. So whenever he puts the toy in his mouth, takes it, click and reward him with a treat. After you do this for a number of times, increase the amount of time the dog is holding the toy in his mouth.
The final thing to do is to throw the toy away from the dog. Since dogs have a natural tendency to chase they will go for it. Now to get it back, you need to guide them with body language and encouraging voice. When he runs toward you, run backwards a little and when it is enough stop, click and treat him. All you have to do next is to repeat it until he learns.

The Challenge Of Training Terriers!

Terriers are usually spunky dogs, in particular the smaller breeds but they are also fun-loving! Training terriers therefore presents quite a challenge at times.

But they do have some marvellous qualities, being loyal, fearless and full of spirit, so one should never give up on their training.

My first terrier, a westie or west highland white terrier to give him his proper title, went to dog training classes aged nine months. Needless to say he failed the course! All he was interested in was having a good time with the other doggy participants and trying to annoy two rottweilers.

However, once he reached about one year old his training suddenly seemed to take hold and he began to act in a more mature fashion. As an example, he could go out of the house without a leash and get into the car without trying to wander off.

That said, there are rare occasions where a canine is inappropriately possessive of their' person. Using Pack techniques, you can resolve most issues in a short period of time.

Certain breeds, (as well as individual animals), have a stronger reaction to situations they find threatening than others; and someone taking up time and space with their human can be very threatening from the dog's point of view. These tips are designed to help remind Spot' of his place within the household.

As with human children, consistency counts. You and you partner must be in agreement as to what is acceptable behavior and what is not. If it is not acceptable, it must ALWAYS be unacceptable. If a behavior is allowed once, the dog will continue to try it to see if there is another situation in which it is acceptable. Unwanted behaviors can range from getting between or trying to push you away, to growling or threatening behavior when you touch. Extreme cases include snapping and biting.

Dog Obedience Training Guidelines

Dogs are said to be “man's best friend”. We love dogs because they are lively, full of character and can be trained and taught to respond to commands which control their behavior. How is this obedient behavior achieved? Obedience training can be tricky and therefore requires the dog owner to have some understood of the basic methods utilized in dog training. Dog obedience training not only gives pleasure and is fun, but more importantly, it enhances your dog's skills. It is also one the best bonding activities experienced between you and your pet.

Do not be over ambitious and aggressive in your training. Obedience training requires some time to successfully complete. Be aware that such training is ideally designed to assess and improve upon the inherent habits and traits of your pet. Do not expect obedience training to solve your dog's behavioral problems in an instant. The program should assist your dog and properly influence him to build on his positive and good habits. A collateral advantage of instituting a training program for your dog is that it serves as a means for resolving any other problems that may arise from time to time.

Learning a Few Basics in Dog Training | ArticlesBase.com

Are you the kind of person who stands in awe at parties and family reunions, watching other's people pets sit and heel when there are told to do so? If you answered yes, then it wouldn't hurt to spend some quality training time with your dog. The most influential stage in a dog's development are the first years that he spends as a puppy. This is the best time, if any, to train your dog. As your dog ages he will grow accustomed to his lazy ways and become very stubborn. He will be less receptive and inclined not to listen or accept any “new” ways of doing things. Furthermore, keep in mind that in order to figure out the real age of your dog you must use the seven principle. Take your dogs age and multiply it by seven to get the human equivalent. Hence a dog that is five years old, in human terms he is really thirty five. A thirty five year old is far less likely to listen to anyone than a five year old.
